What are MPT and DSI?
MPT (Maximum Phonation Time): measures how long you can sustain a vowel sound. It reflects respiratory support and vocal fold efficiency.
- Normal: Males >15s, Females >14s
- Reduced: 10-15s (male) / 10-14s (female)
- Severely reduced: <10s
DSI (Dysphonia Severity Index): is a multiparametric score combining MPT, maximum F0, minimum intensity, and jitter into a single validated measure.
DSI = 0.13 x MPT + 0.0053 x F0-High - 0.26 x I-Low - 1.18 x Jitter + 12.4
- Normal: DSI > 5.0
- Mild dysphonia: 3.0 - 5.0
- Moderate dysphonia: 1.0 - 3.0
- Severe dysphonia: < 1.0
